Choosing the right size
Diameters are measured across the top rim; the flat base is usually 3 to 5 cm (1–2″) smaller. Match the base to your hob ring or zone. On an induction hob, check that induction is listed under Hob types: a magnet sticks firmly to a base that works on induction.
Cast iron under a smooth enamel
- Enamelled cast iron: spreads heat evenly and holds it for long, slow cooking.
- Close-fitting domed lid: raised rings on top and a brushed steel knob.
- Cream enamel interior: smooth, needs no seasoning, and makes it easy to see how the food is browning.
- Two cast iron handles: a secure two-handed grip between hob and oven.
- Hob and oven: works on gas and induction hobs and in the oven.
Cast iron is heavy and the handles and knob get hot: use oven gloves. Use wooden or silicone utensils, as metal tools can scratch the enamel, and lift the pot rather than slide it on a glass hob. The oven limit is supplier-stated.

Care and cleaning
Wash with a mild detergent and dry it before first use. Let the pot cool for a few minutes before washing, and never put it hot into cold water, as a sudden change of temperature can crack the enamel. Soak stuck-on food in warm water, clean with a nylon or soft sponge rather than steel wool or abrasive cleaners, and store it dry.

Does it need seasoning? No. Both the inside and the outside are enamelled.
Can it go in the oven? Yes, below 260 °C (500 °F) (supplier-stated). Stand it on the oven rack, never on the oven floor.
