Choosing the right size

Diameters are measured across the top rim; the flat base is usually 3 to 5 cm (1–2″) smaller. Match the base to your hob ring or zone. On an induction hob, check that induction is listed under Hob types: a magnet sticks firmly to a base that works on induction.

  • Enamelled cast iron pot: about 2 L, with a cream enamel inside and two side handles.
  • Star-cut lid: holds the forks in place and helps keep the table clean.
  • Six forks: 23.5 cm long, each with a different coloured end cap.
  • Spirit burner: an adjustable burner under the pot.
  • Iron stand and wooden base: a steady three-legged stand on a round board.

The pot can also warm the fondue first on a gas, induction or ceramic hob, then move to the burner at the table (supplier-stated). Fuel for the burner is not included. The pot, stand and burner get hot: use oven gloves and never move the set while the burner is lit.
